Sometimes we just have to make it through

Last week there was a particularly challenging day for me. At one point I considered the ironic fact that I write these uplifting thoughts every day, but couldn’t seem to put them to use for myself. My attitude was terrible! It didn’t seem to matter what I did, pray, meditate, read, listen to music, exercise… I just felt terrible - irritable, restless, discontent, extremely tired and achy.

By now you’re probably wondering what great tip I have to share to get through a day like that. Well, if there was a magic way to overcome, it was beyond my comprehension. The truth is I just hung in there until it was over and I could home and get some rest. In my mind I kept saying to myself - “This too shall pass.”

You see, no matter how bleak things might seem at any given time, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. During the toughest times of my life, that hope is what has kept me going. Ironically, most of those really terrible things, didn’t seem so bad in retrospect. Given time they seemed irrelevant.

So, as bad as it may seem, sometimes we just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and make it through.

Good news! There is an upside to this – I believe that people are like steel. The more times in the fire, the stronger they become. A weightlifter builds muscles by first pushing them past the limits to the point of failure. Only then will the body grow new, stronger muscle fibers. I believe life is the same way.

Have a great day everyone!
